We are still here

We are still here, and Mark is doing fantastic. It's hard to believe he is about to graduate preschool shortly!  A baby no longer- but he will always be our sweet baby boy.

Well....

IT'S OFFICIAL!

TODAY, AUGUST 22, 2008 is our FOREVER FAMILY DAY.

We found out Tuesday afternoon that there was a good chance we'd get to go to court on Friday morning. Yesterday we got the A-OK. And this morning we went to court and were on the docket at 830 AM. There were 4 cases of family court in front of us, and by 9 AM Mark's adoption was finalized. There to celebrate with us were Mike's parents, My mom, my sister and brother in law and our niece and nephew. My dad was there via phone- as he was on a plane to Alaska.

Afterwards, my other sister and her daughter met up with us (they'd had to take my nephew to school this morning) and my mom (Mamacita), both sisters, my brother in law, my nephew and both nieces, Mike, Mark and I all went to Cracker Barrel for brunch.

Mike's parents are off in Galveston and will stop by to visit on their way home.

We are so happy, so excited, and tired (we had to get up super early this morning to be at court at 815 AM). So we are going to relax this afternoon and evening and enjoy being a family.

I guess this is my last post in this blog for now, as it was for our adoption journey. If the opportunity comes up to adopt again, I'll start it back up. But for now, we move on to a parenting journey, and our adventures with our son, Mark. Thanks for following along with us, it's been quite the ride! But it was MORE than worth the wait.....

Closer

We're getting closer. No news is good news, I guess. We'll be calling again tomorrow to see if we can get an update- latest was that both lawyers need to get together to make sure everything is all in order to turn in. Keep your fingers crossed something happens soon!

Once we are FINALIZED I can't wait to start the next blog. Mark has been up to SO much and I can't wait to share it with you!

Here is the link to his new blog, we'll start posting in it as soon as it's all done!

August Update

In one of our online playgroups we do an "update" each month, the first week or so of the month. So I thought I'd post ours here. You can see, our little guy has been quite busy lately!

Age: 7 months

Weight: 18 lbs

Length: 26.75 inches

Milestones: crawling, pulling up, sitting up from a crawling position, too many to name- Mike said last week "wow, last week was a big week for him developmentally" - and if HE said something, you know lots has happened.

Mobility status: crawling, pulling up with a few steps while holding on to something

Diaper Size and Brand: we've been using natural choice environmentally friendly in size 3, but we're almost done with that case and we have some whole foods 365 and some earth's best size 3 to try next. We use Seventh Generation a lot too.

What size clothes? 6-9 mo. He's in a solid 6 months now. Though he can wear some 3-6 tops and shorts.

How long is your baby sleeping at night? 10-12 hours

How many naps? 2 - 3

Favorite toy? his books that make noise

Favorite activity? jumperoo

How do they interact with their siblings? with the cat- great. Chases after her and pets her. He's learned not to grab her fur. Loves his cousins (ages 1,2,3 and 5) too - and gets right in there with them.

How many teeth? two full, plus 2 that are currently breaking through and two that are right under.

Favorite Food? anything and everything. Peach Apricot Muesli is his favorite baby food from Earth's Best. He loves oatmeal cereal and multi grain cereal from Happy Bellies and several of the Happy Baby frozen foods. He loves mashed potatoes, avocados, frozen mangos, guacamole, and grilled cheese.

Least favorite food? nothing really- actually I take that back- he doesn't like smooth (pureed) baby food. He wants "real" food.

What are the family plans for the rest of the summer? hanging around home, some trips to the river; Hopefully finalization.

he got caught trying to climb over daddy's legs to get to his arrow root cookies.

7 months

Wow, we've been home six months - our little guy is SEVEN months old today!

The time sure has flown. We did unofficial stats today, since he doesn't have a dr appt until nine months. He weighed 18 lbs even, and was 26.75 inches long. So he's roughly 40% in both categories.

He has a huge list of food he's eating- he's really taken to it and likes to be a big boy. He's crawling and gets around the room very fast. He's also very vocal. There are two teeth right now, but I'm pretty certain at least one more is going to pop out in the next few days. He looks like he's about to get a top front tooth.

We're still waiting. We called again today and left a message asking if there was anything we needed to do. We didn't hear back, hopefully we will soon. We were hoping for a July finalization day, but it looks like it's going to be August or later now. Ah well, it's out of our hands and there is nothing we can do.

The love we have as a family though- it's wonderful. We are so blessed to have this child. He truly is a special little boy and we couldn't imagine life without him.

Nothing new

We are still here in the waiting game. Hopefully we'll hear something soon. I'm going to call the lawyer's office again today for an update. We're ready to get this finalization over with and move on!

In other news - we have a crawler! And we have 2 teeth! This past week was a very big one with crawling, teething, and many more developmental milestones. It was like all of a sudden -boom - there he goes!

One step closer

Mark and I took a trip to the lawyer's office yesterday and dropped off the fingerprints. The secretary was so happy so see us. She loves Mark, and the feeling is mutual. He snuggled right up to her and just gave her the largest smiles. It was so cute to see.

As for updates, we're waiting for Mark's lawyer's report, our lawyer needs to find out if we need another criminal check (we had one when we did the ICPC) and then we should be able to get a date from the judge.

Now, things change all the time, so who knows? But we sure are hoping we can wrap this up soon!
